On December 8, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 200 block of Young Street for the report of a male who had been shot.

With assistance from the Tactical Support Unit, Central Patrol General Patrol officers attended to the residence and located a 40-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. An 18-year-old female victim was also located uninjured within the residence. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition, where he was treated for his injury. The adult male suspect remained on scene and was safely placed under arrest by officers and placed into custody. Officers recovered a firearm within the residence and seized it as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.

Investigators determined that during a heated argument, the suspect shot the firearm (long gun) in the direction of the female victim, narrowly missing her. As the male victim intervened to assist the female victim, the suspect shot the male causing an upper-body injury. The suspect falsely identified himself to officers at the time of the arrest.

The suspect and victims were previously known to one another.
