On October 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation regarding an adult male involved in trafficking illicit drugs in the city's North End and believed to be in possession of a firearm.

On October 26, at approximately 2:00 a.m., North District General Patrol officers observed the male suspect operating an electric bicycle in the area of McGregor Street and Burrows Avenue, not abiding by regulations of the Highway Traffic Act. Officers stopped the male, who initially identified himself using an incorrect name, and subsequently fled on the bicycle after becoming uncooperative and damaging the police vehicle. After a short distance, the male discarded the bicycle and continued to flee on foot.

With assistance from Central and East Districts officers, the Tactical Support Unit, and K9, North District General Patrol officers located the male in the 500 block of Alfred Street and safely placed him under arrest without incident. A firearm was recovered.

Officers seized the following items as evidence:

- Loaded sawed-off .22 caliber rifle
- .22 caliber Ammunition x 22
- Approximately 28 grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $2,800)
- Approximately 1 gram of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $200)
- Approximately $485 in currency

A 37-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of trafficking (Fentanyl)
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

- Identity Fraud- Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice

He was detained in custody.
