In September of 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit entered a drug trafficking investigation involving several suspects and a residence in the East Kildonan neighbourhood.

On September 24, 2022, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, the Guns & Gangs Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the first block of Colley Crescent.
Two suspects were located within the residence and placed under arrest without incident.

Investigators seized several items from the residence, including the following:

- Long Rifles x 7
- Handguns x 3
- Large quantity of various ammunition
- approximately 3 oz. Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $6000)
- approximately 6 lbs. Psilocybin/Mushrooms (Estimated Street Value = $12,000)

A 29-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 10
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 3
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 3
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Psilocybin
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000

A 29-year-old female of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 10
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 3
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 3
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Psilocybin

- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000

Both suspects were released on undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The investigation is continuing.

From January 2022 to date the Winnipeg Police Service has seized 765 crime guns (compared to 2021=850), involved in the following offences:

  • 11 shooting-related homicides
  • 96 non-fatal shootings (this is slightly lower than last year at this time)
  • More than 90 sawed-off firearms
  • The most common guns seized to date are air guns, and rifles (commonly sawed-off)
  • 3D crime guns seizures increased from 11 to date compared to zero in 2021
  • Ghost guns (polymer) decreased from 1 to date compared to 7 in 2021
