On September 12, 2022, the Major Crimes Unit arrested an adult male involved in three stabbings in the Disraeli/Princess neighbourhood in August.
On August 15, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to the report of a male in his forties who was stabbed. He reported that he was confronted by an unknown male on a bike in the 100 block of Princess Street who yelled a racial slur, stabbed him in the lower body without provocation, and rode away.
Police provided emergency medical care, including the application of a tourniquet, and the victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., another adult male in his forties was stabbed in the abdomen by an unknown male on a bike in the 100 block of Disraeli Freeway. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., a third male victim in his forties was confronted and stabbed in the arm by an unknown male in the 2300 block of Main Street. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition, and police located the suspect nearby.
A 29-year-old male, Hossam AL-KINANI of Winnipeg, was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with weapons-related offences and detained in custody.
With General Patrol's assistance, investigators in the Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation and linked AL-KINANI to the earlier stabbings on Princess and Disraeli.
On September 12, 2022, AL-KINANI was charged with the following new offences:
- Assault with a Weapon x 2
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
He remained in custody.
