On August 7, 2022, the Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation regarding a shooting at a residence in the 300 block of Bonner Avenue.
During the investigation, officers identified an adult male suspect. On August 8, assisted by the Tactical Support Team, the Major Crimes Unit executed search warrants at the suspect’s residence in the 2700 block of Main Street.
Investigators seized several firearms, including a Girsan 9mm Luger handgun, ammunition, and spent shell casings.
Investigators believe the suspect attended a party at the residence on Bonner Avenue with an acquaintance and left the party early. After the acquaintance was involved in an altercation at the party, the suspect returned with a handgun and fired several rounds toward the residence from his vehicle. Stray rounds struck a parked vehicle and a neighbour’s residence. No injuries were reported.
On August 9, a 34-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Pointing a Firearm
- Assault with a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
He has been detained in custody.
