On July 9, 2022, at 12:39 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Wilkes Avenue and Community Row for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.
Soon after, a WPS unit arrived in the area but could not immediately locate anyone. They travelled south on Community Row, a gravel road, for approximately two kilometers until they were flagged down by several teenagers who advised that their friend had been stabbed and that they would have to locate him some distance away on foot in a heavily-bushed and muddy area.
The pair of officers gathered their medical equipment and set out approximately one kilometer on foot until they located the victim (an 18-year-old male) suffering from significant stab wound injuries. Other police units arrived soon after, and emergency medical care, including bandages and chest seals, was used to stabilize the victim.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was directed to the site. WPS and WFPS members worked together to carry the victim on a soft stretcher for approximately one kilometer to an ambulance on Community Row, where he was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.
This incident is being investigated by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
