On July 6, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the East District Community Support Unit were patrolling near Des Meurons/Goulet when they observed a vehicle listed as stolen being driven by a female westbound on Goulet Street.
The driver took off at a high rate of speed towards Downtown. A short pursuit ensued and was aborted due to the suspect’s manner of driving. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle on the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and continued speeding away into St. Boniface. The other vehicle was damaged, but the occupants were not injured.
Once in the 600 block of Archibald, the suspects (an adult male and female) bailed out of the stolen vehicle and jumped into a second vehicle that had been previously stolen. Police observed the suspects driving the second stolen vehicle, and a subsequent pursuit occurred. The pursuit was aborted quickly when the vehicle began driving the wrong way down Marion Street at a high rate of speed, nearly missing oncoming traffic.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., police units were notified that a carjacking had just occurred at a church parking lot in the 300 block of Munroe Avenue. The elderly victim in her seventies was pulled from her rental vehicle by the same suspects. They drove off in the third stolen vehicle with the victim’s purse. Her credit card was later used at a convenience store. The victim was treated for minor injuries.
Police searched the area, but the suspects were not located.
This investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219.
