Update:

On June 21, 2022, the Major Crimes Unit became aware that a second victim was injured during a shooting incident at Exhibition Park.

An 11-year-old boy (unknown to the parties involved in the shooting) was in the company of his mother and in close proximity when the shooting occurred. A round struck the victim in his lower body. As the area was in chaos, his mother got him to safety and immediately transported him to hospital. He was treated for a gunshot wound and the police were later notified.

Investigators have charged all three accused with the additional offence of Aggravated Assault. They all remain in custody.

As previously released:

On June 20, 2022, at 7:03 p.m., West District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit and Tactical Support Team, responded to an exhibition park in the 3900 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 16-year-old male being tended to by on-site emergency medical services. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

At approximately 7:23 p.m., a taxi cab was stopped in the area of Tyndall Avenue and Burrows Avenue. Three individuals were taken into custody, and a loaded handgun was recovered.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the shooting occurred after an altercation.

A 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male were charged with firearm and assault-related offences and detained in custody.

A 17-year-old male is facing the charge of Aggravated assault and was released as mandated by the Criminal Code.
