In June 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into a female who was believed to be coordinating the sale of crack cocaine on behalf of a street gang.
On June 12, 2022, at approximately 10:50 a.m., two suspects were arrested in the area of Ellice Avenue and Minto Street. A search of the taxi cab they had been in, along with their property, resulted in the seizure of several items, including the following:
- a 9mm calibre handgun with an auto sear implemented to make it fully automatic (prohibited firearm)
- an extended magazine loaded with 21 9mm calibre cartridges (prohibited device)
- 15 ounces of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $34,000)
- 12 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $960)
- $2,030 Canadian currency
In addition, 40 Tylenol 3 pills (estimated street value of $120) were located on one suspect. The other suspect was found to possess 17 grams of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $1,360), 10 Xanax pills (estimated street value of $1,000) and $1,000 in Canadian currency.
Soon after, a pair of search warrants (Criminal Code & Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) were executed at a residence in the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue. A number of items were seized, including the following:
- 9mm calibre ammunition
- .308 calibre ammunition
- .22 calibre ammunition
- score sheets
- a bulletproof vest
Samantha Lee Bruyere, a 43-year-old female of Peguis First Nation, Manitoba, has been charged with:
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Poss is Unauthorized (x2)
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine (x2)
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)
Monique Aileen Marie Duhard, a 52-year-old female of Rathwell, Manitoba, has been charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Codeine
Both were detained in custody.
Over this past weekend (June 10-12, 2022), the Winnipeg Police Service responded to and continues to investigate a homicide, as well as several shooting and stabbing incidents.
