On May 20, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Central General Patrol officers observed what appeared to be an insecure, vacant residence in the 1400 block of Ross Avenue West.
Officers entered the residence to ensure no persons were inside and located a freezer containing numerous garbage bags.
Officers discovered the remains of eight dogs, individually wrapped in garbage bags. Officers determined that the residence had been vacant for approximately six years and that multiple transient persons had accessed the residence during that time. The Animal Services Agency attended to assist.
As per the Animal Services Agency, it is believed the dogs were three to four months old with medium fur, long snouts, and long legs at the time of death. The cause of death is undetermined due to decomposition.
Suspected animal cruelty or neglect should be reported to the Provincial Animal Care Line at 204-945-8000.
