Update:

On April 20, 2024, with the assistance of Saskatoon Police Service, Dyson SUMNER, wanted for the murder of Murdo BAKER, was arrested in Saskatoon, SK.

The investigation determined that the deceased victim and the accused were socializing with a group of people at an apartment in the 800 block of Main Street on March 19. An altercation took place, resulting in the fatal shooting of Murdo BAKER, and SUMNER subsequently fled the city.

Dyson Irvin SUMNER, 28 years old, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Warrants for Possess Weapon and Failing to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 3.

He was detained in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the Saskatoon Police Service for their assistance in this investigation.

As previously released, on March 19, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment building suite in the 800 block of Main Street regarding an unresponsive adult male.

Attending North District officers located the adult male, who was subsequently transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.

Investigators have identified the victim as 24-year-old Murdo BAKER, originally from South Indian Lake, residing in Winnipeg. Notifications to the family have been made.

The Homicide Unit continues to investigate.

Dyson Irvin SUMNER, 28 years old is currently wanted for 2nd Degree Murder.
