On March 14, 2024, the Major Crimes Unit charged an individual regarding damage to gas lines at several public service buildings.

Between February 16 and March 13, the Winnipeg Police Service received similar reports regarding the following locations being affected:

- a business in the 300 block of Stanley Street

- a business in the 100 block of Henry Street

- two businesses, both in the 600 block of Main Street

Investigators determined a suspect had been cutting through chain fences and using tools to extensively damage the external gas lines, creating potential life-threatening situations for the employees and the surrounding area.

The estimated damages are $10,000 and have been repaired by Manitoba Hydro.

Justin Ryan HASTINGS (30) of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences and detained in custody:

- Mischief Endangering Life x 7

- Break & Enter with Intent – Place

- Possession of Break In Instrument(s)
