In March 2024, North District Community Support Unit officers of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation regarding a wanted male believed to be in possession of firearms.
On March 12, officers observed the male suspect wearing a backpack, operating an electric-powered bicycle near Aberdeen Avenue and Andrews Street. The suspect fled eastbound on Aberdeen Avenue as officers attempted to place him under arrest. Shortly thereafter, he abandoned the bicycle and continued to flee from officers on foot, discarding his backpack.
The suspect attended his residence in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue, freshly pursued by officers who located him hiding within. The suspect proceeded to assault two officers during his arrest; however, no involved parties sustained any injuries. Officers recovered the discarded backpack in a backyard on the 400 block of Aberdeen Avenue. A search of the backpack produced the following property, which was seized as evidence:
- A loaded .22 calibre semi-automatic sawed-off rifle containing a magazine with containing .22 calibre ammunition x 15
- A magazine containing .22 calibre ammunition x 20
- .22 calibre ammunition x 13 contained in a prescription bottle
- Approximately 18 Grams of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $2,700)
- Approximately 7.5 Grams of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value: $375)
- Cell phones
- Approximately $150 CDN currency
Paul Joseph DUCLOS, 33, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Assault Peace Officer x 2
- Resist Peace Officer
- Flight While being Pursued by Peace Officer
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Traffic in Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possession of Identity Document
DUCLOS was also arrested on the strength of a Warrant in his name for Break Enter & Commit Assault – Dwelling House.
He was detained in custody.
