As previously released:

On February 9, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue for the report of an adult male assaulted with a machete.

General Patrol officers from the West District, assisted by Tactical Support Team members, attended and located a male in his 50s suffering from a lower-body injury sustained after being struck with a machete. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition, where he underwent surgery for his injury.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the victim and suspect were passengers on a Transit bus. Both disembarked at Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue when the suspect followed the victim and attacked him with a machete striking him in the lower body.

Investigators believe the assault to be random and unprovoked. No arrest has been made, and the Major Crimes Unit continues investigating.
