The Winnipeg Police Service’s Vehicle Inspection Section (VIU) works in close partnership with the commercial vehicle community and MPI Vehicle Standards to keep Winnipeg roadways safe through education and enforcement. This includes:

  • Conducting commercial vehicle safety inspections.
  • Enforcing of city, provincial and federal; bylaws and regulations.
  • Assisting with oversized loads.
  • Conducting roadside safety checks on light (under 4500 kg) vehicles.

On September 16, 2022, the VIU provided education and implemented enforcement at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility in response to insecure loads falling onto the roadway and trucks failing to stop at the stop sign at Eathan Boyer Way.

Overall 65 trucks (commercial and light trucks) were stopped as a result of bearing insecure/overweight loads or failing to follow the rules of the road (failing to stop, dangerous driving). Thirty-two (32) offences were recorded under the provincial offence act.

Drivers are reminded to follow speed limits, traffic signs and always secure their loads, including an allowable weight. The public can anticipate police presence in this area for the purpose of education, enforcement and safety measures.
