On September 9, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to Memorial Boulevard and St. Mary Avenue for the report of a male armed with a knife threatening to stab members of the community.

Shortly thereafter, Central District General Patrol officers located a 41-year-old male at the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Balmoral Street suffering from an upper-body injury sustained from a stabbing. Officers provided emergency medical care to the victim using a chest seal. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Through their investigation, officers learned the suspect had threatened and chased multiple people in the area while brandishing a sharp-edged weapon. Officers also learned the suspect was initially observed throwing an unknown object at a City of Winnipeg Transit bus, causing approximately $500 in damage, before approaching the first victim and stabbing him in the upper body. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.

Officers learned the suspect approached the second victim, a 32-year-old female, in the 200 block of Young Street and threatened to stab her while brandishing a sharp-edged weapon. The victim fled to her residence safely as the suspect threatened to kill her family.

Officers learned the suspect approached the third victim, a 54-year-old male, at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Furby Street and unsuccessfully attempted to stab him. The victim was able to flee to safety unharmed.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers, assisted by members of the Foot Patrol Unit, located the suspect male at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street. After a short pursuit, officers placed the male under arrest without incident.

The victims and suspect were not previously known to one another, and the attacks are believed to be random and unprovoked.
