Break & Enter Firearms – Arrest: C23-14791

On January 18, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., two suspects – a male and a yet-to-be-identified suspect broke into a residence in the 600 block of Victor Street, where several firearms, ammunition and other valuables were stolen. Contractors working in the area reported the suspicious activity.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., officers from the Central District were actively patrolling the area and observed a male near Beverley Street/Sargent Avenue with a knife protruding from his backpack. He was taken into custody, and the following items were seized and believed to be related to the earlier break-and-enter:

- 4 rifles

- various ammunition

- brass knuckles

- knives

- jewellery

Mervin Christopher WHITE (44), of Winnipeg, was charged with the following 20 offences:

- Possession of a Weapon

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

- Break Enter & Theft - Dwelling House

- Break Enter & Steal a Firearm x 4

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 4

- Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm x 4

- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime x 4

- Possession of Break In Instrument(s)

- Warrant: Fail to Appear Ident

He was detained in custody.

The Property Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate as there is an outstanding suspect and potentially outstanding firearms. Anyone with information can call investigators at 204-986-2426, 911 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
