On July 2, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 800 block of Sherbrook Street for the report of a male armed with a firearm pointing it indiscriminately toward members of the public.

Within minutes, attending Central District General Patrol officers and intercepted the male suspect walking in the area, still brandishing the firearm. The male was taken into custody without incident. The firearm, determined to be a Semi-Automatic SKS Rifle, was secured and seized by officers as well as a small quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamine found on his person.

Through their investigation, officers learned Health Sciences Centre security assisted by an Institutional Safety Officer observed the suspect walking outside brandishing the firearm and immediately summoned police. Noting the security personnel’s presence, the suspect pointed the firearm in their direction before fleeing on foot. Security personnel maintained visual contact with the male until police arrived.

The firearm was not discharged, and no injuries were reported due to the incident.

During his arrest, the suspect refused to provide his legal name; however, he was positively identified through fingerprint identification and charged accordingly.

Wayne Nathan ROULLETTE, 27, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Public Mischief

He was detained in custody.
