On June 23, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block Balmoral Street for the report of an injured adult female.

Central District General Patrol officers arrived and located the female who had sustained life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation and has identified the victim as 29-year-old Norma Jean SUMNER. SUMNER was a Dauphin River First Nation member but had recently been residing in Winnipeg. Family notifications have been made.

The investigation is continuing, and no arrests have been made.
