Update:

The Major Crimes Unit continued its investigation into a serious assault which occurred in the 400 block of River Avenue on May 25, 2024.

Since the assault, the 56-year-old victim, Richard Lauren FEHR, remained in hospital on life-support. On June 5, he passed away due to his injuries.

Investigators identified and arrested a 25-year-old male, Dorion Anthony Terrence OLSON who has been charged with Second Degree Murder.

Notifications to the family have been made.

As previously released:

On May 25, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of River Avenue for the report of an adult male who had been seriously assaulted.

Attending West District members attended and located an unconscious 56-year-old adult male suffering from serious injuries sustained from an assault. Officers provided the victim with immediate emergency medical care before the arrival of ambulance. He was transported to hospital in serious condition, where he remains. The suspect(s) fled before police arrived.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.
