On May 31, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the first 100 block of Claremont Avenue for several reports of a male suspect acting erratically and assaulting several residents.

Attending East District officers learned that the suspect had kicked the glass entry door to a residence and attempted to physically assault one of the residents, a 71-year-old male, before fleeing on foot. The suspect then ran to a nearby residence and ran towards a 34-year-old female victim outside her residence with her young child in a threatening manner. Both were unharmed, and the suspect continued to flee on foot.

Officers located the suspect near the intersection of Lawndale Avenue and Coniston Street, where they observed him assaulting a 36-year-old female victim through the window of her parked personal vehicle with a water bottle. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested the suspect without incident. The victim did not suffer any injuries as a result of the assault. A prohibited knife was located on his person and seized by officers.

The suspect and the victims were not previously known to one another, and the suspect’s intoxication is believed to be a factor in the incidents.

An 18-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing a charge of Assault with a Weapon, three charges of Assault, Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon, and Mischief Under $5,000/ Obstruct in Enjoyment.

He was released via an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
