On May 25, 2024, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted regarding the theft of a motor vehicle by an adult male and an adult female in the Central Park area.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., the 44-year-old male victim tracked the stolen vehicle, a rented 2014 Mazda CX-5, to a parking lot in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue, where both suspects were observed with the vehicle and advised police. Both suspects fled on foot before police arrived.

Attending East District General Patrol located both suspects in the same parking lot and arrested them without incident. The male suspect was found to possess approximately $1,300 worth of freshly stolen property from two retail stores in the immediate area, as well as identification documents that did not belong to him. Officers recovered the stolen vehicle and returned the stolen property to their rightful owners.

 Joseph Michael HOBAN, 38, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of Identification Document
  • Theft Under $5,000 x 2

He was detained in custody.

A 29-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and was released by way of an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The suspects and the victim were not previously known to one another.
