On May 21, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision in the 500 block of Portage Avenue. A vehicle crashed into the Young Street side of the CBC building.

An initial investigation determined the owner of the vehicle had entered a nearby business while his wife and 18-year-old child waited inside the parked car. An unknown male entered the vehicle in an attempt to steal it, at which point a motor vehicle collision occurred, and the female passenger was assaulted on the ground. The suspect ran off, and police were called.

An ambulance was summoned, and the female was not seriously injured. The teen passenger had previously exited the vehicle.

Officers on scene met with witnesses, and this investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, including video, is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
