On May 17, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sargent Avenue for the report of an adult female who had been stabbed.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and located the female victim suffering from a serious injury sustained from a stabbing. Officers provided emergency medical care to the victim before the arrival of ambulance. She was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she was subsequently pronounced deceased. Officers arrested an adult male suspect inside the apartment without incident.

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and has now identified the victim as 37-year-old Rachel MUSWAGON, a member of Norway House Cree Nation residing in  Winnipeg. Notification to family members has been made.

Dustin Cody SWAMPY, 29 years of age, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and has been detained in custody.

The suspect and the victim were previously known to one another.
