Update:

On April 18, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Homicide Unit arrested an individual for the murder of an adult male earlier that morning.

The deceased victim has been identified as 31-year-old Eric Yuefi FONG of Winnipeg. Family notifications have been made.

A 21-year-old male, Shayden Duck MCFAYDEN of Winnipeg, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and several firearms-related offences.

An initial investigation has determined that the victim FONG and another male were walking in the area of Selkirk/McKenzie when the accused, who was also in the area, confronted them, shot FONG and chased the second male, who fled on foot.

The other victim has not yet been identified, and it is unknown if he was injured.

Police need to identify the unknown victim to ensure his wellbeing. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the unknown victim is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.

On April 18, 2024, at approximately 3:18 a.m., General Patrol officers from the North District responded to the report of a seriously injured male in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street.

Police located an adult male outside and immediately began emergency medical care. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Notifications are pending, and no additional information is available at this time.
