Update:

The Major Crimes Unit continued its investigation into a stabbing incident that occurred in the early morning hours of April 14, 2024 in the 1000 block of St.James Street.

Investigators identified a suspect as 31-year-old Matthew Dixon HARLAND of Winnipeg. At approximately 2:00 a.m. on the same date, officers located HARLAND at his residence and placed him under arrest without incident.

HARLAND is charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon.

He was detained in custody.

As previously released:

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., West District General Patrol officers responded to the 1000 block of St. James Street for the report of a fight and stabbing incident.

Tactical Support Team (TST) members also responded and located an adult male victim with a serious lower-body injury. Emergency medical care was provided, and a tourniquet was applied. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition. A second adult male was also injured; however, his injuries were not life-threatening. 

At this stage of the investigation, it has been determined that a group of individuals became involved in an altercation, which escalated, and an edged weapon was produced. The investigation continues, and interviews are ongoing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
