Police Media Release Notice

On February 22, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service received a report regarding a commercial break and enter at a vendor in the 700 block of Maryland Street. Liquor was stolen, and the suspects made good their escape. One of the suspects was observed with a small dog.

The investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.

On March 1, 2024, a commercial break and enter occurred at a jewelry store in the 400 block of Notre Dame Avenue. An undisclosed amount of merchandise was taken, and a suspect was observed with a small dog.

On March 2, 2024, General Patrol members in the Central District observed an individual with a small dog near Sargent Avenue and McGee Street. The individual and dog matched the suspect description provided in the previous incidents. 

He was arrested, turned over to the Major Crimes Unit where he was identified as the suspect in the above mentioned incidents.

Jason David Vanwyck (40) of Winnipeg was charged with the following offences:

- Break Enter & Theft – Place x 2

- Poss of Break In Instrument(s)

He was detained in custody.

The dog was taken into safe care and not injured.
