Suspicious Item – Investigation: C24-37800

On February 18, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a suspicious item in the area of Assiniboine Avenue and Rouge Road.

General Patrol officers attended and confirmed the presence of a suspicious item and treated it as a possible improvised explosive device (IED). In a coordinated effort, multiple units assisted in safely containing the area and securing a safe perimeter before the arrival of the Bomb Unit.

On February 19 at approximately 12:40 a.m., the item was found not to contain any explosive materials, and there was no further risk to public safety.

No injuries were reported during this incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Winnipeg Police Service cautions the public that when locating a suspicious device or package, they should contact 911 immediately and not approach.
