On February 7, 2024, at approximately 6:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue for the suspicious death of a male.  

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, already on scene, located the deceased male in a hallway. General Patrol officers from the Central District secured the scene, and the Homicide Unit took over the investigation.

The deceased victim has now been identified as 19-year-old River HARPER of Winnipeg. His death is considered a homicide.
