On January 26, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a residential break and enter in the 300 block of Magnus Avenue. Initial information indicated the suspects broke into the residence while the residents, including a young child, were all present. Police learned the suspects were known to the victims when they broke in and, while armed, stole property and fled in a vehicle. None of the victims were injured.
Police in the area observed a stolen vehicle believed to be driven by the suspects and attempted to stop it, including the deployment of a tire deflation device. The suspect vehicle continued to evade police and subsequently rammed two police cruiser cars, causing substantial damage to them. The suspect vehicle then crashed into a tree, and the suspects fled on foot.
Two male suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot chase, and with the assistance of the K9 Unit, a female suspect was taken into custody nearby in the Bronx neighbourhood. As a result of these arrests, a machete was seized, along with ammunition and the victim’s property.
One of the males required medical treatment for a collision-related injury.
The Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation.
