On January 22, at approximately 1:45 a.m., General Patrol members of the Winnipeg Police parked in a marked police vehicle in the front loop of police headquarters at 245 Smith were approached by an adult male suspect who attempted to punch the driver through the open window unprovoked.

The officers then observed the suspect attend to the front of 266 Graham Avenue, where he threw a metal garbage receptacle through the front window panes, shattering them in the process. The suspect entered the building’s tower lobby through the broken window pane and attempted to attend to an upper floor using the adjacent elevators. Security personnel intervened and prevented the suspect from exiting the elevator onto a floor. The suspect re-attended the main floor, where he armed himself with a large piece of broken glass and approached awaiting officers.

Officers required the deployment of a Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) to safely bring the suspect under control and place him in custody.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

A 25-year-old male from Garden Hill First Nation, MB. is facing the following charges:

- Assault a Peace Officer

- Break & Enter with Intent – Place

He was released via an Appearance Notice.
