Shooting Investigation: Arrests – C24-12608

On January 17, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., General Patrol officers and the Tactical Support Team (TST) responded to reports of the sound of shots in the area of the 100 block of Kate Street.

Attending officers located property damage, including evidence indicating a firearm discharge took place. No injuries have been reported, and the suspects fled.

As a result of the investigation, four males were located in a nearby suite and taken into custody. The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

A search warrant was applied for and executed at a suite in the same area, resulting in the following items being seized:

- 100 grams of Crack Cocaine

- Over $1000 in Canadian currency

- A modified semi-automatic rifle

- A loaded .22 calibre rifle

- Various ammunition

Ross Stephen THOMPSON, 49 and Matthew Harold MEREDITH, 45, have been charged with the following:

MEREDITH

- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 2

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

- Possession of a Weapon x 2

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Probation Order x 2

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 2

- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

THOMPSON

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2

- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 2

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

A 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male are also facing several weapon and drug-related charges and have been released.

MEREDITH and THOMPSON were detained in custody.
