On  January 4, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded for the report of a seriously injured male lying outside in the 800 block of Furby Street.

The adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Daniel JAWBONE of Winnipeg. His death is considered a homicide.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., police arrested 59-year-old Derin HANNINEN of Winnipeg at an apartment suite in the 800 block of Furby Street. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder and detained in custody.

Investigators have determined the deceased victim, JAWBONE, was assaulted earlier by the accused, HANNINEN, during an altercation in the accused’s suite.

Appropriate notifications have been made.
