Child Specialized Investigation – Arrest: C23-313569

Released: January 2, 2024 at 11:27 a.m.

On December 30, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit was alerted to an incident where a toddler was believed to have ingested illicit opioids.

Residents began CPR and called 911 after observing the small child in medical distress. The child required immediate medical attention and was transported to hospital in critical condition by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. After several doses of Narcan, the toddler was stabilized.

A subsequent investigation determined the child inadvertently ingested a substance believed to be fentanyl while they were crawling on the floor at a residence in North Point Douglas.

A 28-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing a charge of Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence. He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code and is prohibited from attending the child’s residence.
