Homicide Investigation Arrest – Update: C23-306079

Released: December 22, 2023 at 12:03 p.m.

As previously released, on December 20, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing in the area of Talbot Avenue and Watt Street. 

Officers attended and located an injured adult male who was transported to hospital in unstable condition. He was later pronounced deceased in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Ivan RUBANIK.

The Homicide Unit continued to investigate.

Ethan Richard GLADU, 19, of Winnipeg, has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and detained in custody.

The investigation has indicated that GLADU, without provocation, fatally stabbed RUBANIK while he was walking to work. GLADU fled the area, resulting in numerous police resources responding to the intersection. Due to the efforts of attending members, GLADU was identified and arrested on December 21 at approximately 10:50 a.m. in the 100 block of Henry Avenue.
