Police Media Release Notice

On November 28, 2023, at approximately 12:40 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Pembina Highway and Dalhousie Drive.

Initial information indicates that the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene, and an officer was pinned by the suspect vehicle. A firearm was discharged by one of the officers, striking the adult male driver. Officers provided emergency medical care, and the adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition; however, he has since succumbed to his injuries. A female passenger remains in police custody at this time.

The officer pinned by the vehicle was injured during the incident and transported to hospital in stable condition.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
