On November 23, at approximately 1:00 p.m., patrolling members of the Winnipeg Police Service were flagged down by a passerby regarding a working fire at a multi-unit residence in the 700 block of Flora Street.
North District General Patrol members attended and observed two adult females self-evacuating the fire-engaged residence and quickly assisted in extracting two additional adults to safety. During the evacuation, officers also learned a family pet (dog) remained helplessly trapped within the residence.
Without hesitation, officers entered the residence, located and safely extracted the dog. One officer sustained a minor dog bite injury and subsequently attended hospital to receive medical treatment. All other involved parties, including the dog, suffered no injuries from the fire.
The fire was safely brought under control by attending members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
The Winnipeg Police Service is not investigating the fire as a criminal incident.
