On October 12, 2023, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a serious assault.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., a 72-year-old male was operating his black 2014 Dodge Caravan westbound in the 200 block of River Avenue. It was at this time a cyclist crossed in front of his van, causing him to stop suddenly to avoid a collision. After doing so, the cyclist became enraged and began yelling profanities. The driver rolled down his windows to speak with the cyclist. After doing so, a second unknown person attended to the driver's side window and struck the victim in the upper body, causing extensive injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
