On October 28, 2023, at approximately 4:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue for the report of an adult male who had been shot.
North District General Patrol officers attended and located a 58-year-old male victim suffering from a serious upper-body gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition. The suspect, who was known to one of the residents but not known to the victim, fled before police arrived.
At approximately 9:20 a.m., General Patrol officers, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Unit (Drone Unit), executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Summerside Avenue. The suspect was located within and arrested without incident.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect attended the residence and forced his way into the residence. A verbal argument ensued with the homeowner, which escalated with the suspect producing a handgun and discharging it at the victim, causing a serious upper-body injury.
Dylan Denee Alfred DENECHEZHE, 24, of Winnipeg is charged with the following offences:
- Aggravated Assault
- Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House
- Use of firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
He was detained in custody.
