On October 15, 2023, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the Broadway and Sherbrook Street area for the report of a male in distress running into traffic and acting erratically.

Attending officers located the male, and he was taken into custody. The male went into medical distress, was transported to hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased.  

The identity of the male has yet to be confirmed.

Members of the Homicide Unit were notified of the incident.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
