On October 12, 2023, members of the Property Crime Unit arrested a male after a crime spree between June 20 and September 13, 2023, targeting fifteen hardware stores within the City of Winnipeg.

The male would enter the businesses and select various items ranging from air conditioners to power tools. He would then flee, making no attempt to pay. On one occasion, the suspect produced an axe and lunged at a Loss Prevention officer before leaving the area. No injuries were sustained.

The total value of the property stolen exceeds $22,000.

Michael Dean SMITH, 31, has been charged with the following:

- Theft Under $5000 x 14

- Robbery

He was detained in custody.
