Shooting – Arrest: C23-238280

On October 1, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., General Patrol officers and the Tactical Support Team responded to a shooting in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue. An injured adult female was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and established that an altercation took place outside a lounge establishment amoung a group of people. The victim stepped in, at which point she was shot.

A suspect was identified, and a subsequent search warrant was executed at a residence in the 200 block of Stradbrook Avenue. One individual was taken into custody, and a significant quantity of drugs and cash were seized as a result of the investigation:

173 grams of Cocaine (estimated street value of $14,000)

11 grams of MDMA (estimated street value of $70)

4 grams of Psilocybin (estimated street value of $60)

$10,000 in Canadian currency

drug packaging materials

four magazines with live ammunition

A 26-year-old male, Alex Joseph MATYI, was charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated Assault

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle

- Pointing a Firearm

- Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x3

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Ecstasy

- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Psilocybin

- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Poss is Unauthorized

He was detained in custody.
