In January 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) was alerted that child sexual abuse imagery was uploaded to an IP address within the city.

ICE officers identified a suspect and a single-family residence associated with the IP address and, on July 5, executed a search warrant in the Seven Oaks neighbourhood. Officers located child sexual abuse imagery during the search, and several electronic storage devices were seized.

Through their investigation, investigators determined that the suspect had been employed as a teacher in multiple school divisions within Winnipeg and within the province for approximately the last fifteen (15) years.

Alan Lindsay VENESS, 59, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

 - Possession of Child Pornography
- Accessing Child Pornography

VENESS was released on a Release Order as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information wishing to speak to investigators can call 204-986-6172.
