On January 15, 2023, at approximately 6:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to Osborne Street and River Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian.

Attending West District General Patrol officers located a 75-year-old male victim lying on the sidewalk with an upper-body injury. He was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated for his injuries. Officers determined that a collision did not occur, and the victim’s injury resulted from an assault.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the victim and suspect were involved in a road rage incident where both vehicles had stopped in a parking lot in the 400 block of River Avenue. They exited their vehicles, at which time the victim was physically assaulted. He was rendered unconscious, fell to the sidewalk, and sustained life-altering injuries.

On June 21, 2023, a 37-year-old male of Winnipeg was arrested and is facing a charge of Aggravated Assault.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code
