On May 1, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of St. Anne’s Road and Worthington Avenue for the report of an elderly female who had been assaulted.

General Patrol officers from the East District attended and located an 83-year-old woman victim suffering from minor upper-body injuries sustained from a physical assault. The victim was assessed by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and medically cleared at the scene. An adult female suspect fled before police arrived.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation, identified a suspect believed to be involved in this incident, and linked her to several similar reports of assaults within the city.

- May 1: The suspect approached an 83-year-old victim at the intersection of St. Anne’s Road and Worthington Avenue, punched her repeatedly in the upper body without provocation, and fled northbound on St. Anne’s Road. (C23-100932 refers)
- May 2: The suspect approached a 28-year-old victim at a transit stop in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Avenue, punched her repeatedly in the upper body without provocation, and fled the area. The victim suffered minor injuries and sought medical attention on her own accord before reporting the incident to police. (C23-103078 refers)
- May 4: The suspect repeatedly punched a 36-year-old male passenger of a transit bus in the upper body without provocation, causing no injury. Shortly after, the suspect disembarked the bus with a 39-year-old female passenger, punched her repeatedly in the upper body without provocation, causing no injury, and fled the area. On June 2, 2023, officers arrested the suspect at her residence in the 200 block of Ferry Road without incident.

The suspect and victims were not previously known to one another.

Natalie Anne Alice SIMPKIN, 30, of Winnipeg, is charged with four counts of Assault and was detained in custody.
