On June 2, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Dubuc Street and Braemar Avenue for the report of a fight involving a group of males, two of whom were armed.
General Patrol officers from the East District, assisted by the Tactical Support Team (TST), located three males engaged in a mutual fight, including a 29-year-old male armed with a machete. When directed by officers, the armed male discarded the machete to the ground and was safely arrested without incident. A 20-year-old male, rendered unconscious from being physically assaulted by a 22-year-old male, was transported to hospital in stable condition, receiving medical attention for a minor upper-body injury. A fourth suspect fled before police arrived; however, TST members located the 19-year-old male near Niverville Avenue and Hill Street and safely arrested him without incident. TST members found a 12-gauge shotgun concealed on his person. The machete and shotgun were seized as evidence.
Through the investigation, officers learned the suspects, who were all previously known to one another, engaged in a mutual fight after a verbal dispute escalated.
A 19-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
A 29-year-old male from Peguis, MB., is facing the following charge:
- Possession of a Weapon
Both were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
