On June 2, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., General Patrol officers from the Central District, with the assistance of AIR1, responded for the report of a stabbing in the area of Sargent Avenue and Toronto Street.

Police located a teenage female outside with severe injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition. A youth male suspect was subsequently located in the Spence neighbourhood and taken into custody.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined a group of youths known to each other were socializing when a confrontation arose. Bear spray was deployed, and the victim, a 17-year-old female, was slashed with a machete. Except for the injured female, the group dispersed and fled the area.

During the investigation, the male accused was linked to an unrelated robbery in Fort Garry a few days earlier.

On May 31, 2023, at approximately 8:25 p.m., General Patrol officers from the West District responded for the report of two 14-year-old males in the Parker neighbourhood who were confronted at knifepoint and their personal property stolen. The suspects fled the area, and the victims ran to safety unharmed.

A 14-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated Assault
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Robbery x 2
- Possession of a Weapon

He has been detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing both investigations and asks anyone with information regarding the stabbing or the robbery on May 31st to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS(8477).
