On May 29, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a suspicious male that entered Maples Collegiate.

Officers from the School Engagement Section met with school officials and determined that an unknown male (late teens, early 20s) entered the school and entered a female washroom. The male confronted a few female students when they entered the washroom, but they quickly exited and reported the male to the school. The suspect subsequently fled, and police were immediately alerted. None of the students were physically injured.

Maples Collegiate families and the surrounding schools were provided notification by the school officials.

Due to the nature of the circumstances, the Sex Crimes Unit is continuing this investigation. Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-986-TIPS (8477).

The Winnipeg Police Service encourages students to report to their school office if suspicious individuals are observed on school grounds or within the school.
