Update:

The Homicide Unit continued its investigation regarding a stabbing death incident on May 30, 2023, in the 400 block of Burrows Avenue.

Investigators identified a suspect believed to be involved in the incident. At approximately 4:30 a.m. on the same date, the suspect was located in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue and placed under arrest without incident.

Through the investigation, it was learned that the suspect and the victim were in separate groups on Salter Street near Burrows Avenue when they engaged in a dispute. A physical altercation ensued, and the suspect stabbed the victim, causing serious injuries. The suspect fled before the police arrived, and the victim was transported to hospital in critical condition. The victim succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased victim has now been identified as 22-year-old Alan Henry ANDERSON of Winnipeg, and notifications to the family have been made.

The suspect and the victim were not previously known to one another.

Cory Dylan WATT, 24, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

- Manslaughter
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2

He was detained in custody.

The Homicide Unit does not anticipate further arrests regarding the incident.

 

As previously released:

On May 30, 2023, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of Burrows Avenue for the report of a stabbing incident.

General Patrol officers attended and confirmed a 22-year-old male was stabbed and transported to hospital in critical condition. The victim succumbed to his injuries, and members of the Homicide Unit were notified.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information or video surveillance footage that may assist investigators is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
