Homicide Update – Arrests: C23-101720

Update:

The Winnipeg Police Service continued the investigation into the stabbing death of Kevin James WESCOUPE on May 2, 2023.

Through their investigation, the Homicide Unit identified two suspects believed to be involved in the incident.

Investigators determined that the suspects confronted Wescoupe and another male victim in the 100 block of Austin Street North. Both victims were stabbed, and the suspects fled before police arrived. Responding officers provided emergency medical care to both victims before the arrival of Paramedics.

Investigators believe the suspects and victims were unknown to each other.

On May 15, the suspects were arrested without incident in the 600 block of St. Anne’s Road and at a residence in the 200 block of Machray Avenue.

Taylor Brandon Lee FLETT, 24, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Second Degree Murder

- Attempted Murder

Kevin Cook McKAY, 23, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Manslaughter

- Aggravated Assault

Both were detained in custody.

 

As previously released:

On May 2, 2023, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 100 block of Austin Street North for the report of a stabbing incident.

General Patrol officers attended and confirmed two males were stabbed. Both victims were transported to hospital, one in critical and the other in unstable condition.

Kevin James WESCOUPE, 41 of Winnipeg, has since succumbed to his injuries. A 38-year-old male has been upgraded to stable condition.
